Child Advertising

As technology becomes more advanced and encouperated into society, the opportunity for companies to show off their products  has become part of everything. Advertisement has made its way  on to every mass media channel like television, radio, magazines, and even the sky is filled with billboards and planes toeing signs. As adults, we have the capability to pick and choose which advertisements to believe and ones to ignore. I believe that it is unethical to purely target kids when advertising on visual media like television because of the impact it has on the children. Kids under the age of ten have a mind-set where a majority of the information seen, is understood as the full truth. Companies like Mc D’s, Lego’s and other toy brands, use the kids imagination to help make their product look more realistic. For example, every Lego commercial on television has incorporated a story line with the toy, but then at the end of the clip it says that all pieces are sold separately. This shows how children’s minds are taken advantage of when it comes to visual elements of the media, and should not be taken lightly. As a society we need to take into consideration of the types of lessons and morals kids soak in while watching ads on t.v., because kids mimic everything they see and hear. In conclusion, companies have the right to introduce thier product to kids to burst an interest, but we need to have guidelines to follow.
