Times Have Changed

Every year millions of advertisements reach the publics eye and creates the majority of  companies customers. The Public Relation business in the world today has changed drastically to cop with the new technology. The major products in the 19th century were shown based on actual hand held advertisements and clips on the radio. Before the invention of the internet and the television, advertisements were either written or broadcasted over the radio to reach the maximum number of buyers. The most popular written companies was the newspaper and the first couple magazines that incorporated adds along with general information. As technology advances the techniques for public relation teams must change to keep their customers interests met. Once the television and the internet took over the mass media market, the public gathered information from TV adds and pop ups that you can see from your computers. The public image has currently become more of an action and “bang” business than just putting your name out there for people to see. Society today is looking for produces that look appealing and things that shine over everything else. A couple examples of the current Public Advertisements that people cant escape are: Billboards near the freeway, video ads before you watch a youtube video, and pictures that pop up on the side of almost every web page.

Need for News Deviations?

The United States of America was founded on the principals that would allow each citizen to live with freedom and the power to make personal decisions. The heart and drive of this country relies on the governments promise to obey our First Amendment and to control the people with a power of many and not one. The First Amendment states that we have the Freedom of Speech and Press, in which citizens witness this Amendment being broken everyday in the Media. A law called “Prior Restraint” was put into place by Congress to allow the government to intervene in any situation that prompts danger to the public or disrupts National Security. I believe this law is definitely needed with in the Mass Media with the amount of sources that can spread information  though out the public. On the contrary, it should only be tweaked and changed if faced with a special situation, but needs to stand down when it comes to local and global news. People deserve the to know the truth about the world they live in within boundaries to keep people calm but aware of the broad situation. Some of the categories that should be untouched by government and special departments are:

  • Local News
  • Global News
  • Mass Media profiles like Facebook and Twitter(personal information should not be monitored unless absolutely needed)
  • Personal and business phones

On the other hand, some of the situations where government should intervene with the release of information would be:

  • Acts of terrorism
  • Secret missions over sea’s
  • Suspected plots against the country
  • The release if information that happened in White House

With out important details kept secret, our nations defense and security would be at risk if the information dealing with plans were leaked to the public. In conclusion, the government has the right to intervene in special circumstances in the release of Mass Media, but needs to be limited and not have the power to evade the privacy of citizens at will. With the Government’s power not regulated with close eye, allows for the publics freedom of privacy to be violated.

Media Control

Mass Media in the united states has boomed in the last decade and is becoming an addiction for most Americans. Mass Media devices like: phones, TV, computer, have made into every room and pocket in our lives. The top providers of controlling the mass media is television, internet, and written literature and become a major persuader towards politics and other social issues. An important owner in the Media industry is Rupert Murdoch who owns ” NBC, MLNSABC and telemundo; News Corp which owns FOX, the Wall Street Journal & the N.Y. Post; Walt Disney (again, who knew?) which owns ABC; Viacom, whose only news venture appears to the an Indian media company, Global Broadcast; CBS; and finally, Time Warner which owns CNN. He has more media pole in society that people it a partial monopoly. This creates a skewed point of view that is shown to the public everyday and makes it hard for society to believe what they see and hear. A great example where we witness this, is everyday on news stations like NBC and FOX. Also, News papers and digital technology is quickly overcoming written news in newspapers and magazines. The  drawback of having mostly digital systems, is an open door for hackers to steal information from your computer with little to no effort. Along with persuading and changing societies minds, the media can be controlled by the government. Most types articles and news that reaches the public has been edited and changed by people who work for the government. These filters run by government employees, have given the media a Sense of fake “ness” when trying to decipher what facts are true. In conclusion, mass media is controlled in many ways now that technology is become more advanced.
